An electromagnetic lock is the alternative to an electric strike in an access control system. You may use a mag lock in a situation where an electric strike cannot be used. For instance, on a double door where it may cost much more to install an electric hinge and wire the door for a strike.
A mag lock is a fail safe locking device that requires power to lock. In case of power outage you may want to power your mag lock with a power supply with a battery back up. Regardless, you will always want to wire your locks to an existing fire alarm system for power cut off during a fire alarm. This is "code" and the authority having jurisdiction, (building or wiring inspector), will want to see this. Speaking of installation codes, you may also need an emergency exit button wired in to your system, and maybe a request to exit motion detector to allow easy egress.
First Stop Security carries an assortment of different weight rated mag locks. A 300lb rated mag lock is a light duty lock.
